Connection Lost / La connexion perdu
in collaboration with Alexia Charoud, 2020
Exhibited at the Sorbonne, Paris, 2020; travelling thererafter.
This spatial sound piece, created with musician & producer
Alexia Charoud, was commissioned by the UK Acoustics Network to kick off the International Year of Sound 2020.
This audio file is a stereo mix of the piece, originally made for a 33-speaker cylindrical array created by the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, Southampton University.
I wrote a poem which is translated into French and read by Alexia. I also produced a
dub remix of this piece.
Here is a news story about the premiere.

Here is the full text of the poem:
I was here, before you were born
You were my dream, made real
Sounds from within
Without. Fleeting. A memory
Silence broken. Disquiet
You cannot reach the horizon
You have to invent it
Where do we land?
Who is in control?
Do you remember - you were here
The voices - signals - what lies beyond
Waves, energy, carried on the wind
Now silenced. Filled with noise.
Far from home now
The birds carry time
The forest loses meaning
The mind becomes fleeting
Sea of electricity
Elegy
No commitment, no communication
No energy for consternation.
You blocked me out, covered me over
Sounds from within
I was your dream, unreal
I will be here, when you’re gone.
